Echo Cycle, Edmonton, AB - service horror stories

Over the last few days, and at round 3, many of you have shared your own Echo Cycle horror stories. I am flabbergasted that these folks continue in business and have survived so long in Edmonton. The tales of over-charging, missed appointments, and inability to quote service work accurately, show a definite pattern.I'm not trying to hurt anyone in particular. I have every confidence that despite their attitude's while at work, they are all good people.

My challenge is with the process and the fact we have a motorcycle service shop charging the highest rates per hour ($109) with the slowest possible output per hour...that adds up to you paying much more than you should for any service work you have done at Echo Cycle.

If all the people who shared their own Echo Cycle service horror story with me, actually shared it with Echo management...and then still nothing changed...then we can legitimately tell them we gave them a chance. I know I did my part...have you? The only other way we can "help" Echo Cycle management understand how they are viewed in the community is to avoid shopping their.

You all should really talk with each other too...the stories that come out of the Echo Service shop are, well, remarkable to say the least. I can only speak to the facts surrounding my experience...unless you speak up, the rest is just hearsay.

Hey man...I'm glad I hunted down "Echo Cycle experiences" before I went shopping. I currently have a Hyosung GV650, and attempted an amazing 17000km tour of the whole USA and back. I made it to Ventura, CA, where the output shaft tossed it's front pulley, tearing up both. A MONTH later, stranded alone in Anaheim CA and a week late for work, I had to fly home. The bike is amazing when it worked; the infrastructure and the US dealers were f'n brutal. And cost me about $10000 or so in extra costs I never intended to spend.

So, looking for a new bike. The Triumph Rocket 3 looks unreal for a cruiser...150+ ft/lb's of torque?? :) BUT...the only dealer is Echo, and I've heard mumblings that they're absolutely brutal, inept, arrogant in their knowledge they're the only game in town for those brands, and that scares the **** outta me.

Don't suppose you know any other Triumph dealers who are reputable? I'd be curious to hear what you or your racing crew have experienced from other good dealers vaguely locally... If you do, hit me up at misc(at)mikestraub.com (skipping the @ symbol to hopefully avoid spambots picking up my addy)

It's all true my friend. I only did this because they told me to F**k off when I brought my conerns to their attention.

They literally dared me to Googleslam them....

As I understand it the EMRA discount here only applies to parts and apparel not service, according to my manager (he mentioned that no one from EMRA had come in to sit down to discuss what the discount would actually be). However, you were not charged for either the nitrogen fill or the 5 weight fork fluid that we provided.

As for the time it took to do the work – we did it once according to the directions you provided, then once using the correct specs. If we had provided the specs, or messed up on the work because we got the wrong directions you would not have been charged for our mistake. However, you volunteered to provide us with the literature and it is not our fault the literature was incorrect. This is why we had to do the work twice. It took my mechanic 2.97 hours to do the actual work once according to the wrong specs, then the time to undo it and redo it correctly. You were only charged 2.00 hours (time to do the job twice).
