EMRA round 2 - huge success

Round two of the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association's six round series, ended in great success for 51racing. The team's primary rider, Rick Newcombe rode to a personal best laptime of 1:06.18 on the mighty Honda RC51.

There were some epic battles witnessed by the race fans between the RC51 of 51racing and the powerful Ducati 916 of Joe Peskunowicz of Calgary's DucatiDaddi racing. Joe is an extremely talented racer whose bravery is almost unequalled in motorcycle racing. He valiantly rode his 916 wheel to wheel with Rick Newcombe on the RC51, with the two riders displaying their various skills for all the thousands of fans in attendance to see. It was said that the two provided the most entertainment for the fans by "duking it out" in almost every corner. Joe's exceptional skill kept the under powered Ducati in the hunt for a podium. Both riders added valuable points to their season totals. Rick Newcombe was quoted as saying "That Joe Peskunowicz is an amazing rider, he pushed me to a new personal best as I had to struggle to use every skill in my arsenal to try and stay ahead of him". Rick went on to add "His bravery is something I look up to and aspire to achieve". Joe was heard saying "Rick is a fun rider to race with. If he ever learns how to ride that farm tractor he calls a motorcycle, he'll be even more fun to race against!".

51racing pulled off a seventh place finish in the Formula Thunder class collecting 11 more points for the season. If all the other riders would take a holiday and miss the upcoming double-header, this may be the teams best season ever!

More details to follow!

EMRA Round 2
DucatiDaddi Racing of Calgary travelled to the provincial capital of Edmonton for the June 20/21 weekend to test recent repairs to the 1998 Ducati 916 transmission and attempt to get back into racing forum.

While the team reported "mixed" results, one of the old "rivalries" flared up like a California wild fire during a drought!

51Racing out of Edmonton, picked up right where they left off last season. What you need to know is that the main rider for 51Racing and DucatiDaddi team leader are 2 of the oldest riders in the series. In fact they are older that the fathers of the guys they are racing.

An epic battle occured that caused the race announcer to lose interest in the leaders and follow the corner to corner antics of these 2 teams. On the Stratotech 1.1 mile, 9 corner road course, both riders traded positions with the horsepower of the RC51 of 51Racing pulling away under throttle, and the Brembos on the Ducati 916 allowing later braking and overtaking in almost every corner entry. Many members from the crowd flocked to the 2 teams pits to congratulate both riders on some of the most entertaining racing of the day!

51Racing's main star, "Duke Nukem" Rick Newcombe was overheard telling his lead mechanic, "you have to get more more braking power, on every corner he is showing me a wheel, usually the rear wheel! I cannot out brake him"

DucatiDaddi Racing's rider, TC (Tri-Colore) Joe P was wild after getting off the track. He was saying, "Wow, where did that guy come from? He has to be 2 seconds quicker than last year. I destroyed a brand new set of Brembo pads just trying to out brake him..then he pulled the pin on that grenade of a bike and rockets away down the straights. Is he running jet fuel in that thing?"

Much to the delight of their hundreds of fans, they met in pit lane and congratulated each other in a very emotional and moving way and promised to go after each other hammer and tongs in the round 3 and 4 double header coming up on July 11 and 12.

DucatiDaddi Racing would like to thank the EMRA for a wonderful event that was professionally run and also a special thanks to 51Racing for making this an weekend of epic battles.

The gauntlet has been thrown.
